1. Are cosmetic and therapeutic injections safe?

Yes. Injections have been used in medicine for more than 20 years and are safe when given by a trained health professional such as Dr. Ethier.

2. Who gives the injections at the clinic?

Dr. Simon Ethier, a dentist specifically trained in cosmetic and therapeutic injections and in facial anatomy, performs all the treatments.

3. Does it hurt?

Most patients feel almost nothing; some areas of the face may be slightly sensitive, nothing more. The treatment is generally very well tolerated.

4. How long does a session last?

A first consultation session lasts about 1 hour on average, including the injections, if any.

A follow-up appointment, two weeks after the initial treatment, lasts 15 to 30 minutes on average.

Booster appointments with injections, every 3 to 6 months, also last 15 to 30 minutes. If combined with a dental cleaning appointment, they add 10 to 20 minutes to it.

5. What are the possible side effects?

Side effects are extremely rare. There may be slight redness and/or, very rarely, bruising at the injection sites, which disappears within a few hours or days.

6. How long does it take to see results?

Results start to appear after 2 to 5 days, and the optimal effect is reached at 14 days.

7. How long do the effects of botulinum toxin last?

The effects generally last 3 to 6 months, depending on the patient and how many years they have been treated. The longer a patient has been treated, and if boosters are given before the product has fully worn off, the longer the effects last.

8. Are injections offered for cosmetic purposes only?

No. Dr. Ethier also offers injections for therapeutic purposes, including bruxism, jaw pain and certain headaches.

9. Can men have this treatment too?

Yes, absolutely. More and more men come in for cosmetic or therapeutic injections.

10. Can I resume my normal activities after the session?

Yes. You can return to your normal activities immediately after the treatment, avoiding intense physical activity and saunas for 4 hours.

11. How much does a treatment cost?

Prices vary depending on the areas treated and the type of treatment. A personalized assessment is offered at the consultation.

For reference, here are the average costs by area:

  • The glabella (between the eyebrows): $300–500
  • The forehead: $120–250
  • Crow’s feet (per side): $100–300
  • Subtle brow lift (per side): $150–200
12. Is it covered by insurance?

Cosmetic treatments are not covered. Some therapeutic treatments may be, depending on your plan.

13. At what age can you start cosmetic injections?

There is no set age. It depends on your needs and goals. A consultation will determine whether the treatment is appropriate. It is, however, recommended to start around age 30 to prevent wrinkles that could be harder to soften once they have formed. The minimum age is generally 18.

14. Is a consultation appointment needed before the treatment?

Yes. A first meeting is scheduled to discuss your expectations, assess your situation and propose a personalized plan. The injections are usually given at the same appointment, and the consultation fee is then credited toward the cost of the injections.

15. Can the injections be done during a dental appointment?

Yes. Injections can be combined with a dental appointment, depending on the assessment and the time booked. It is important to mention it when booking so your appointment time can be adjusted.

16. Is the session confidential?

Yes. The dentist is bound by professional secrecy.

17. Will the injections appear on my invoice?

Yes. The words “cosmetic injections” will appear on the invoice.

If the client wants more discretion, paying in cash is an option, since it will not appear on a credit card statement.

The injection can also be done at the same appointment as your cleaning, if you wish. Just mention it when booking. A first consultation is, however, required before any treatment.

18. Can you be allergic to botulinum toxin?

Allergic reactions are extremely rare. Sensitivity is possible if the person is allergic to certain milk proteins, with some brands of botulinum toxin. This will be checked during the medical review at the consultation. It is essential to tell your dentist about any intolerance or medical condition related to lactose or dairy products, among others.

19. Are the results guaranteed?

No result can be guaranteed, since everyone reacts differently. However, a (free) follow-up appointment allows minor adjustments (at a cost) if needed. These will be taken into account at your next injections.

20. Are dermal filler injections offered at the clinic?

Not yet, but they will soon be available for the mouth area. The service is planned for the end of 2025.

21. Is there a file opening fee?

No. Only the consultation is charged; if the injections are given at the same appointment, the consultation fee is deducted from the total cost.

22. Do I need a medical note or a doctor’s prescription?

No. Dentists are health professionals qualified and authorized to prescribe and give injections for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes. No medical note or referral is needed.

23. Which brands of botulinum toxin are used for the injections?

We use only recognized, safe products approved by Health Canada, chosen according to the type of treatment and the person’s needs.

24. What is included in a consultation session?

The consultation includes:

  • A first meeting with Dr. Simon Ethier
  • A complete review of the medical questionnaire
  • Photos
  • Listening to the patient’s wishes and discussing the treatment plan
  • The injection, if done at the same meeting
  • A mandatory (free) follow-up appointment two weeks after the injections.

*If minor adjustments are needed, fees may apply.

25. Which areas of the face can Dr. Ethier treat with cosmetic injections?

Dr. Ethier treats the most common areas to soften expression lines, including:

  • The glabella (between the eyebrows)
  • Crow’s feet (corners of the eyes)
  • The forehead
  • Subtle brow lift (lift effect)
