What is a dental veneer?

Veneers are thin shells, made of porcelain, CEREC ceramic or composite resin, used to even out the look of the smile. They are bonded to the visible surface of the teeth to hide their natural appearance and any flaws. This corrects several things: the individual look, shape and colour (structural yellowing, discolouration, browning) of the teeth, flaws and signs of wear (crooked or chipped teeth, etc.), and the width of the gaps between teeth. Dental veneers can change these features individually or together. In every case, they improve the look and overall alignment of the teeth.
A simple, effective treatment

The main advantage of dental veneers is that they address several cosmetic issues in one quick treatment. They may even be preferred over orthodontics to correct minor alignment flaws. Depending on the type of veneer chosen (composite, porcelain, CEREC), the treatment takes one or two appointments and its effects last for years, even more than a decade.
Three treatment options offered at the clinic
Composite veneers
Also called chairside or direct veneers, they are shaped directly on the tooth. The dentist makes them in a single appointment and does not always need to remove a layer of enamel first. This is the most affordable option, but the least durable, since composite resin is prone to staining and discolouration.
Porcelain veneers
They are made in a laboratory from dental impressions. They take two dental visits, removing a layer of enamel (to help them bond) and placing temporary veneers (to protect the prepared teeth). More expensive, they give a natural, durable result, since porcelain resists wear and stains.
CEREC veneers
Made at the clinic with the robotic milling unit of the CEREC system, they can be completed in a single appointment. As with porcelain veneers, this option requires preparing the teeth. The result is durable and attractive.
